Property Assistance Is Available
Montana, property owners were shocked to receive Property Tax Assessments with a 40-50% increase in property valuation, leading to concerns about affordability. However, the increase in taxes does not necessarily mean higher taxes; it is based on the previous year's mill rates.
Montana House Bill 189 introduces revisions to the Property Tax Assistance Program, offering discounts of 20 to 80% on taxes for qualifying homeowners with a property value up to $350,000 and an income under $40,000.
The Department of Revenue provides various Property Tax relief programs, including assistance for disabled veterans, elderly homeowners & renters, as well as property tax rebates.
