Health insurance open enrollment has begun, offering uninsured individuals in Montana the opportunity to obtain coverage or make changes to their existing plans through Healthcare.gov.

This comes at a crucial time, as more than 93,000 Montanans lost their Medicaid coverage this year after a three-year review hiatus due to the pandemic.

Cover Montana is anticipating an influx of new applicants, as many who lost Medicaid may seek coverage through the marketplace, where 87% of the 50,000 Montanans enrolled receive tax credits for their monthly premiums.

Open enrollment runs until January 15, but to have coverage starting next year, enrollment must be completed by December 15.
