MT Had 2nd Highest Rise in Homelessness in America

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development released its Annual Homelessness Assessment Report, revealing that between 2007 and 2023, homelessness increased in 25 states.

Montana witnessed the second-largest rise at 89%, with chronic homelessness more than doubling in nine states, including Montana with a staggering 551% increase.

Montana also faced the second-highest percentage increase in homelessness among unaccompanied youth at 76%, highlighting the need for a statewide effort in accurate head-counts and a recognition of the broader issue of inadequate services for those dealing with addiction, substance abuse, and mental health.
