Move Over Montana
The new Move Over Montana law took effect on October 1, mandating that drivers approaching stationary emergency, towing, maintenance, or construction vehicles must slow down to the temporary posted speed limit if applicable.
If no temporary speed limit is posted, drivers on the interstate must slow down by 20 MPH below the posted speed limit and change lanes if possible.
On state highways or country roads without posted workzone limits, they must slow down by 30 MPH below the posted speed limit and change lanes or slow by half the limit if lane change is not possible.
Violating this law can result in fines up to $10,000 and imprisonment for up to one year, with penalties increasing for subsequent convictions.
