Kids Struggling to Read, Get Help
Early Literacy Advisory Council, a group of Montana educators, has been working on some new rules to help schools use state funding for pre-kindergarten programs, especially for kids who might struggle with reading early on.
This all ties back to House Bill 352, which got support from both sides of the aisle in 2023. It's all about giving kids a hand with reading before the third grade.
The Council is putting together a list of approved tools for schools to use in assessing students, but they're also letting schools be a bit flexible, so they can choose the tools that make the most sense for them.
If everything goes according to plan, these rules will be in place for schools by the summer of 2024.
